Iran Stresses Willingness to Negotiate Enrichment, Rejects Complete Ban

(MENAFN) Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said on Saturday that Tehran is prepared to reach a “reassuring agreement” on uranium enrichment, while emphasizing that zero enrichment is not part of the negotiations.

Speaking to Qatar-based news agency, Araghchi stressed that the Iranian nuclear issue can only be resolved through dialogue, noting that Washington has returned to talks after previously considering military action. “Negotiations are the only way to resolve the Iranian nuclear issue,” he said, describing recent discussions with the US as “a good starting point,” but adding that a “long road remains to rebuild trust” between the two sides.

He reaffirmed that Iran’s missile program is not negotiable, now or in the future, calling it a “defensive matter.” At the same time, he said Iran is willing to “build confidence to conduct realistic negotiations aimed at reaching a fair, win-win outcome” and reiterated Tehran’s readiness to reach an agreement that reassures all parties regarding uranium enrichment.

Araghchi underlined that zero enrichment is “not on the negotiating table,” describing enrichment as a “guaranteed right” for Iran that “must continue.” “Even bombardment failed to destroy our capabilities,” he said.

On regional security, Araghchi noted that Iran does not target neighboring countries, but US military bases in the region. “We do not attack neighboring states; we target US bases in the region, and there is a big difference,” he said. He added that while Iran lacks the ability to strike US territory directly, it would respond to an American attack by targeting bases in the region.

Araghchi concluded by acknowledging that the possibility of war “always exists,” stressing that Iran is prepared for such a scenario while continuing to work to prevent it.
