Iran Threatens Hormuz Oil Blockade Over Maritime Restrictions
Saeed Siah-Sarani said during a ceremony in Qom that Iran would not allow even minimal oil transit through the strategic waterway under such conditions.
“Our hands are on the trigger,” he said, adding that Iranian forces are fully prepared to respond across land, sea, and air if necessary.
He further stated that the Strait of Hormuz remains under Iran’s management and insisted that vessels passing through must comply with Iranian regulations, including designated shipping routes.
Siah-Sarani dismissed the idea of a naval blockade on Iran, describing it as ineffective, and suggested that recent developments in the region demonstrate Iran’s growing influence. He also implied that the U.S. military presence in the Gulf could eventually diminish.
The Strait of Hormuz is one of the most important global energy chokepoints, with a significant share of the world’s oil flowing through it daily. The waterway has seen heightened tensions and intermittent disruptions since March, following the escalation of regional conflict involving Iran, the United States, and Israel earlier in the year.
